AUSTRALIA: The Little Things That Mum Taught Me

AUSTRALIA: The Little Things That Mum Taught Me

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADo you ever find yourself saying things to your children and then realising that they’re your mother’s words coming from your mouth?

My mum was a big believer in making my brother and I wash the dinner dishes before going to bed.  As a teenager this drove me absolutely crazy, and when I first moved out of home I reveled in the pure freedom of leaving my dirty dishes sitting on the kitchen sink and going to bed.

Fast forward to several years ago when I was a working mum with three teenage boys, and ‘dishes before bed’ became my mantra – they don’t like it any more than I used to, but their time will come.

What about the advice that it’s disrespectful to be late when you’re expected somewhere at a specific time; be it work, dinner, or even a party. I could never see the problem, I figured that at least we turned up, so better late than never. I had no idea why my mum was so strict on us being on time. (more…)

Fiona Biedermann (Australia)

Fiona at Inspiration to Dream is a married mother of three amazing and talented MM’s (mere males, as she lovingly calls them) aged 13, 16 and 22, and she became a nana in 2011! She believes she’s more daunted by becoming a nana than she was about becoming a mother! This Aussie mother figures she will also be a relatively young nana and she’s not sure that she’s really ready for it yet, but then she asks, are we ever really ready for it? Motherhood or Nanahood. (Not really sure that’s a word, but she says it works for her.) Fiona likes to think of herself as honest and forthright and is generally not afraid to speak her mind, which she says sometimes gets her into trouble, but hey, it makes life interesting. She’s hoping to share with you her trials of being a working mother to three adventurous boys, the wife of a Mr Fix-it who is definitely a man’s man and not one of the ‘sensitive new age guy’ generation, as well as, providing her thoughts and views on making her way in the world. Since discovering that she’s the first blogger joining the team from Australia, she also plans to provide a little insight into the ‘Aussie’ life, as well. Additionally, Fiona can be found on her personal blog at Inspiration to Dream.

Saturday Sidebar: Share those aspects of mothering that inspire you?

This week’s Saturday Sidebar Question comes from World Moms Blog writer ‘A lady in france‘.  She asked our writers,

What are those aspects of mothering that inspire you?”

Check out what some of our World Moms had to say…

Mom Photographer of California, USA writes:
“That picture is me trying to figure out the sewing machine. I am very inspired and motivated to learn to sew because my mom used to be a professional seamstress and she would make all kinds of clothing for us. she would always amaze me how good she is in doing it and how little effort for her it is to look at something at the store and then come back home and make almost exact thing (even better).”

ALadyInFrance of France writes:
“I’m so grateful for my own mother’s encouragement when I had my first child and would ask her for advice (out of insecurity, not necessarily lack of knowledge). She would say, “You’re her mom and you know best.” I think we have to remember that we moms know our children best in order to be their advocate. ”

Karyn Van Der Zwet of New Zealand writes:
“Those mothers who are serene and calm always impress me.”

INDIA: Sahaj Marg Meditation and My Life

INDIA: Sahaj Marg Meditation and My Life

I came to Sahaj Marg before I was born. Well, as confusing as that statement may seem like, it is not. It has been the most startling revelation I have had over the past few years since I became a mother. When did I know my son? Of course, before he was born; when he was within me, a tiny cell; and I dare say, even before that, when conception was yet to take place.I always knew I would be a mother some day and be as loving and sacrificial and benevolent as my mother is. I knew my baby back then, I just had not met him. Similarly, I have not yet met God, but I am coming closer to doing so every day. Sahaj Marg, or “the natural path,” says God is within you; seek him there. And the only way you can do that is in silence. So, sit in silence, call it meditation if you want, feel that Godliness within you, hug it as close as possible and revel in it. It is very simple.

All wonderful things in life are very simple. I will not say if they are difficult or easy. Motherhood is simple and natural, though someone like me cannot claim it to be ‘easy’. But I am forever learning and rejoicing in my new found experiences and motherhood milestones. (more…)
