SONY DSCWhere in the world do you live? And, are you from there?

I live in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico, which is located in the Southern mountains of Mexico. I was born in Michigan, USA in 1979 and my family moved to Kentucky, USA in 1990. I grew up in a beautiful, small, Kentucky town and didn’t move to the big city till I was married with kids. My husband and I, along with our four children moved to Mexico in 2013.

What language(s) do you speak?

I speak English and Spanish, but I am not fluent in Spanish like I wish I was!! I am still learning. I have always been drawn to the Spanish language. I took a Spanish class in high school. My husband and I took another Spanish language class as adults. Then we moved to a Spanish congregation for three and a half years while living in Kentucky. Now we live in Mexico! My Spanish has definitely improved over the years.

When did you first become a mother (year/age)?

We married young, at age 18. We decided to wait five years before having a baby. I became pregnant at 22 and had Alexis, who is now 11, at age 23. I am very glad we waited five years. We grew a lot in those years! Although life itself is a learning experience and so is parenting. We learn something new, whether we like it or not, every day!

Are you a stay-at-home mom or do you work?

I am so happy to be a stay-at-home mom! This is very important to me and my husband has always been wonderfully supportive. But… I do work! I just am not the type of person to be at home all day, cooking, cleaning, and playing with the babies. I was a part-time professional wedding photographer for ten years in Kentucky. This allowed me to work from home during the week and work on a couple Saturdays during wedding season. Now I blog at home. I can be with my kids and enjoy something I love at the same time.

Why do you blog/write?

One – I love writing and photography! My love for both started while I was in school. With blogging I can do both! Two – I am a very social person. I enjoy social media. Let’s face it. Social media is huge in our society! It is very important for a successful blog. Three – I can stay connected with my friends and family in the States with my writing. I can share our adventures with them and with the rest of the world! This helps alleviate my homesickness and know my parents can get online and read about their grandkids.

What makes you unique as a mother?

Ummm… maybe being an adventure seeker? You don’t have to become a mom and suddenly spend your life in the kitchen! ( I don’t like to cook. Can you tell? ) Take the kids on your adventures! Give them the world! It is such a beautiful planet and a wonderful gift. I don’t jump out of airplanes but I will sell everything, pack up my family of six, and move to Mexico.

What do you view as the challenges of raising a child in today’s world?

There are too many to count! Being a parent is the most difficult job I have ever had. You can’t fail at it. Talk about pressure! For me a husband who suffers from the effects of a Traumatic Brain Injury and kids with ADHD and ODD, makes raising children especially challenging. Never give up!

How did you find World Moms Blog?

Online of course! I was researching the best women’s blogs because I wanted to connect with them to increase my audience as a blogger. I found an article online that had a list of the best women’s blogs and there I discovered World Mom’s Blog. I checked out the site and I thought we would be a good fit. Initially I only intended to write a guest post. When I was asked to be contributor I was flattered! I am so excited about this opportunity. Stay with me and let’s see where this takes us!
