On Monday, we start our week with a soothing post from Alison Lee, whose second son was born just four months ago. She loves the physical aspect of parenting – the cuddles and tickles, and she gives us a glimpse into her life with her boys.
On Tuesday we have a post from Polish Mom Photographer about her 365 Self Portrait mission she is on. She shares some real-life moments that we can all relate to that she’s captured with her children. Come check it out!
Later on Tuesday we have a social good post from Third Eye Mom of Minnesota, who was recently at Capitol Hill speaking for millions of underprivileged people. She believes that all of us can make a difference, and here she tells us how.
On Wednesday we will be in Indonesia, where Tatter Scoops has been making great strides towards of a lifestyle of healthy eating and exercise. She wants to ingrain this in her son as well, and talks about how she hopes to encourage him in healthy choices.
On Thursday we head to Kenya to hear from Mama Mzungu. She gives an eye-opening account of some Kenyan cultural norms when it comes to raising children, and she asks the question: does anyone really have the right to judge how other cultures parent?
On Friday, we close off this globe-trotting week in Laos, with Dee Harlow, who has twin toddlers. The toddler years are a trying enough time for any parent, especially when said toddlers have just had to endure a move to the other side of the world. Dee shares some of the challenges of transition.

How can Parents help their children to experience success at school?
In many parts of the world, this time of year marks the wind-down to summer holidays and the wind-up for back to school preparations. For some of us Moms, this is the first time our little ones will be strapping on the backpack and carrying the lunch box as they newly enter the school system. For others of us, our children are more in-step with the back to school routines and may carry a mixed bag of emotions about their return to the classroom. For both the novice and the expert school-goer, one point remains the same: parents can greatly contribute to the educational success of their little learners. Originally from the US, Erin has credited her intense wanderlust and desire to live around the globe to her nomadic childhood. Every two to three years, her father’s work with a large international company provided the opportunity to know a different part of the US (VA, OH, PA, GA, SC, NY) and eventually Europe (Germany and Italy) and Asia (Thailand and Japan). Though her parents and siblings finally settled down in the heartland of America, Erin kept the suitcases in action and has called Ghana, South Korea, Togo, Bali, and now New York home. Single Mom to a fabulous seven-year-old citizen of the world, she is an educator and theatre artist who is fascinated with world cultures and artistic practices. Her big dream is to some day open a school focused on well-being and inquiry based learning to meet the needs of all her learners. In the meantime, Erin and her Little Man Edem, plan to keep investigating theatre and influencing education, one continent at a time. On Monday we will be in Singapore, where June Yong talks about the culture of starting children’s tuition from as young as three. Does this really set up the child for future success, or is it merely fulfilling a need for status in the parents at the expense of the child?
On Tuesday, we head to Indonesia and, staying with the education theme, Lady E. discusses the fact that for many of us, the idea of routines flies out of the window during the summer holidays. She offers some very practical tips on how we can help our kids make the transition from holidays to school.
On Wednesday, we’re off to Nigeria, where Meredith talks about the culture shock she experienced when she moved there from the United States. She saw that the children were being raised in ways that she initially disapproved of, until she realized that there was a reason for most of the things she saw.
On Thursday, we will be back in the United States with Ohio mom Amy Hillis. Her youngest child has just outgrown pull-ups, and while this is a big success, it is a bittersweet moment for Amy. For the first time in many years, she doesn’t have a baby to care for. Come read as she tells us what this means for her.
Preparing for an international move can be a daunting task to say the least. Natalia is on her way to Tunis! Let’s hear how her preparations are going!

On the beach in a small town in Delaware (USA), sits a little house. Basically untouched from the day it was built. That house belonged to my husband’s fraternal grandparents and we are thankful that it still remains in the hands of family today.
This year we went on our first multi-generational family vacation. It included husbands and wives, sons and daughters, grandmothers and grandfathers. All under one roof.
My husband often tells me stories from his childhood of summer time at “the beach house”, as he refers to it. His memories include walking to town for ice cream, playing mini-golf with his friends, fishing with his dad and brother. This year, we were fortunate enough to spend an extended amount of time on the East Coast (we live in San Francisco, CA) and vacation for a week at the beach house. (more…)
Angela Y. is in her mid-thirties and attempting to raise her two daughters (big girl, R, 3 years; little girl, M, 1 year) with her husband in San Francisco, CA. After spending ten years climbing the corporate ladder, she traded it all in to be a stay-at-home mom! Her perspective of raising a child in the city is definitely different from those who have been city dwellers all their lives, as she grew up in rural Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) surrounded by her extended family.
Angela Y. and her husband are on their own on the west coast of the United States — the only family help they receive is when someone comes for a visit. But, the lifestyle in San Francisco is like no other for them, so there, they stay! This exercise conscious mom is easily recognized, especially when she is riding around her husband-built bike with two seats on the back. And, when she’s not hanging out with the girls, you can find Angela Y. in the kitchen. She loves to cook for her family, especially dessert, and then eats some herself when no one is looking! Sneaky, mom!

On Monday we celebrate this warm North American summer by talking about vacations! Angela Y. in California talks about a special kind of vacation shared with extended family spanning multiple generations.
On Tuesday, we continue to talk travel with Kristen Kolb, who recently relocated from Switzerland to the United States. She is used to picking up roots and moving, but it is an adjustment for her family. She gives us tips for helping kids cope with big changes.
On Wednesday, we will be in New York, where Maman Aya talks about sports, in true Olympic spirit. She ponders the question of whether she is ever likely to be the parent of an Olympic champion, how she would cope with that, and how do we find and nurture our children’s true talents?
On Thursday, we head to Canada to hear from Travel Lady with Baby, who lost her father as a young woman and wants to honour his memory and keep him alive for her child. In this poignant post, she tells us how she has been doing that.
On Friday, we go to Egypt, where Nihad is celebrating Ramadan. She explains what the meaning of Ramadan is and how it is observed.

We were expecting a miracle. We wanted her babies to live, grow up and be healthy.
She was one of our own.
We were mad at her doctors. We were mad at the hospital.
We cried often. We forgave.
We watched and shared videos of babies who had defied the odds among each other.
We hoped Diana’s babies would make it, all because Diana decided to take a chance.
When you take a chance, you open the door for the possibility of defying the odds and for it going in your direction. It could have happened.
