Travel Itinerary for the Week of October 10th!

On Monday we are in Brazil with Eco Ziva, who recounts an exciting adventure. She got to repeat a childhood Brazilian journey with her own son thirty years later.

On Tuesday, we fly north to the United States, where Dee Harlow has taken up temporary residence in Virginia. Come read about how Dee tries to compensate for the fact that she is raising her children far away from her family.

On Wednesday, we are in North Carolina with Frelle. Frelle is a busy mom of four kids. She is an advocate of attachment parenting, and has been brave enough to homeschool her kids. She also says that she leads by example where it comes to body piercings and tattoos.

On Thursday we fly over to Norway to hear from Asta Burrows. Asta talks about the role of grandparents in our kids’ lives, and the challenges of involving grandparents who live far away.

And on Friday, we are in Washington, where Eva Fannon talks about Blackberries. Not the electronic kind, but the fruit!

On Saturday, check out the Saturday Sidebar and chime in with your answers to the week’s question.

In writer interviews this week, on Tuesday we will hear from Angela Y. in California.

Friday Question: Is spanking children an acceptable form of discipline?

This week’s Friday Question comes from World Moms Blog writer Maggie Ellison.  She asked our writers,

“In your opinion, or role as a parent, is spanking children an acceptable form of discipline?”

Here’s what some of our World Moms had to say…

Salma of Ontario, Canada writes:
“I have spanked my children, and it wasn’t the best option.  I found that it is best to deal with each child based on his personality.

The times when I did spank it was out of fear (kids run into traffic etc).  I realized that it was my fear that led me to REACT.

From my experience, spanking doesn’t empower children, so I don’t think it’s a good form of discipline.” (more…)

NORWAY: Interview with Asta Burrows

Where in the world do you live? And, are you from there?

I live in Norway – and I was born and raised here.

What language(s) do you speak?

Norwegian and English (and can understand and make myself understood in Swedish and possibly Danish…)

When did you first become a mother?

At the age of 35… (more…)

Astrid Warren (Norway)

Astrid is a Norwegian thirty something, married, working mum to a wee lad who is almost three and a baby born in 2012! She grew up in Norway, but moved to London, England after she met her husband. After living there during her twenties, she has since returned to Norway and settled down in her nation's capital of Oslo to raise her family. She finds herself slowly turning into her own mother as her free time is spent reading, walking, knitting and meeting up with other mums for coffee. (Ok, she still secretly loves going to the pub, too!). However, there isn't much time for any of the above, as she now enjoys spending most of her time crawling around on the floor, while playing with her children! Check out her blog, Quintessentially Burrows. She's also on Twitter @MrsSWarren.

Travel Itinerary for the Week of September 11th!

In recognition of the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, we are starting this week’s travel itinerary a day earlier than usual. Later on today, we will hear from Jennifer D’Ambrosio, who was in Lower Manhattan on the fateful day and walked through the World Trade Centre doors before the towers were hit.

On Monday, we will have another commemorative post, this one from Maman Aya of New York City. She writes a heart-stopping post about her escape from danger that day, and of witnessing the flight of the second plane into the tower.

On Tuesday, we head to Washington D.C., where Tara B. describes a trip to the movies! Come read her post about her five-year-old’s very first experience with the big screen!

On Wednesday, we head north of the border to Canada, where Multitasking Mumma provides some very sound advice for her child. We hope her daughter will follow these gems of wisdom as she moves through life!

On Thursday we stay in Canada to hear from Kirsten Doyle, who reflects on how she made the transition from a little girl who used to break dolls into a Mom who actually knows how to pretend she knows what she’s doing some of the time!

On Friday Eva Fannon leads us in the Friday Question. Be sure to check it out and chime in with your answers!

In writer interviews, we hear from veteran Asta Burrows of Norway on Tuesday, and new to World Moms Blog, Carri Brown of California, USA!

Many of our Moms have gone through rites of parenting passage recently as they’ve sent their kids off to school for the first time. We hope that these kids – and their parents – have survived and are settling into their new routines!

And of course, our thoughts go out to all of the victims of 9/11 and their families. As we commemorate this day, we wish you peace and strength.

NORWAY: Does Anyone Have the Original Soundtrack to Noah’s Ark?

Have you ever thought about what Noah’s Ark might have sounded like? A pair of all the animals in the world in one big boat would have been loud! If you crept into the eating quarters, would you have seen Mr. and Mrs. Duck talking to Monsieur et Madame Chien over a cup of tea? “Quack, quack.” “Ouaf, ouaf.” “Slurp, slurp?”

Well, we don’t live in a boat, and our animals are mostly in 2-D, but you can hear some pretty international animal sounds blaring from our windows lately.

I am French, and my husband’s Norwegian, and we both talk English to each other. Therefore, there are three strong languages, our mother tongues plus English, under our one roof. (more…)

Travel Itinerary for the Week of August 15th!

On Monday, we are in India for a special post from The Alchemist. She will be writing about Indian Independence Day, and we look forward to hearing all about this occasion and what it means for our Indian moms.

On Tuesday, we visit with Ambre French, our French maman who lives in Norway. She talks about having fun with her daughter and animal sounds. What languages does an animal speak when a child is being raised in a multilingual home? Read and find out!

On Wednesday, we are in Illinois with Jill Barth, mom of three. We recently got to know Jill in her writer interview, and we look forward to reading her posts here. Come read what she has to say!

And on Thursday, we head to Brazil to hear from Eco Ziva, another new writer. She is a mom of two, and working on a doctoral thesis on international environmental policy – an issue that is increasingly important as our world becomes more depleted. We look forward to her first regular post.

On Friday Eva Fannon leads us in the Friday Question. Be sure to check it out and chime in with your answers!

In writer interviews this week, we will be in Canada and Australia. On Tuesday we will get to know Multitasking Mumma, who is joining us from Canada, and on Thursday, we will hear from Fiona at Inspiration To Dream.

There is no news to share this week, but for those interested in useless trivia: on this day in 1953, the whiffle ball was invented.
