We start off this very multinational week in New York with Allison Charleston, whose family line runs high on girls and low on boys. She tells us about how the behaviour of her son – the only boy in her family – fascinates and amuses her.
On Tuesday, we head north of the border to Canada, to hear from Multitasking Mumma. Do you and your partner have similar parenting styles, or do you have a good-cop-bad-cop kind of setup? This mom tells us what it was like for her growing up, and the challenges faced by many parents today.
Tuesday at 5pm, the latest post in our Human Rights column will post from international human rights lawyer, Jennifer Prestholdt, who is in Kathmandu, Nepal this week. Jennifer write an incredibly informative post about the education of girls around the globe. Come see the places she takes us to!

We have a couple of neighbors who spent some years overseas studying towards their PhDs. At the time, their now grown kids were children.
On the day the father finally gave in the final version of his thesis to the teachers who were going to evaluate it, the son approached him in his den and said:
“Dad, can I ask you for something?”
Of course, on that day his mood couldn’t be better, so he promptly answered:
“Today you can ask me for anything, son!”
He obviously thought his son would want an expensive toy or the like, but instead he said:
“I want that pile of papers over there.” (more…)
Eco, from the greek oikos means home; Ziva has many meanings and roots, including Hebrew (brilliance, light), Slovenian (goddess of life) and Sanskrit (blessing). In Brazil, where EcoZiva has lived for most of her life, giving birth is often termed “giving the light”; thus, she thought, a mother is “home to light” during the nine months of pregnancy, and so the penname EcoZiva came to be for World Moms Blog.
Born in the USA in a multi-ethnic extended family, EcoZiva is married and the mother of two boys (aged 12 and three) and a five-year-old girl and a three yearboy. She is trained as a biologist and presently an university researcher/professor, but also a volunteer at the local environmental movement.

We are starting off this week in Brazil! Eco Ziva has completed her thesis, and wonders: how did the stress of her studies impact her children?
On Tuesday, we head to Nevada to hear from new writer Unintentionally Brilliant, who was featured in a writer’s interview last week. Do your kids hold onto their belief in Santa Claus, or have you decided that honesty is the best policy where this is concerned? Come hear what this mom has to say!
Join us on Wednesday as we head north to Canada to hear from Carol @ If By Yes, who gives us her heartfelt thoughts on the difficulties of being a working mother. Many of us will, I’m sure, relate to what she has to say.
On Thursday, we are back in the United States. We are heading to California to hear from Polish Mom Photographer, who loves to travel, cook, take pictures, and of course, blog and share stories of her Polish culture and heritage.
We close off the week on Friday in Arizona, with Dr. Jeanelle. Gulf War Veteran, super-proud mom, and outspoken advocate for positive thinking and self-esteem in teens, this amazing woman has lots of great stories to share!

When I was a child I went on a car trip that I spent decades wanting to repeat. At the time, my family lived in a tiny inland town in northeastern Brazil, where its 3,000 or so residents live perched on a beautiful mountain 900 m above sea level.
An older cousin who lived with us was getting married at what was then considered to be the “ripe old age” of 25 and needed her baptism certificate for the traditional Catholic Church ceremony. This needed to be picked up from her native town several hours away. (more…)

On Monday we are in Brazil with Eco Ziva, who recounts an exciting adventure. She got to repeat a childhood Brazilian journey with her own son thirty years later.
On Tuesday, we fly north to the United States, where Dee Harlow has taken up temporary residence in Virginia. Come read about how Dee tries to compensate for the fact that she is raising her children far away from her family.
On Wednesday, we are in North Carolina with Frelle. Frelle is a busy mom of four kids. She is an advocate of attachment parenting, and has been brave enough to homeschool her kids. She also says that she leads by example where it comes to body piercings and tattoos.
On Thursday we fly over to Norway to hear from Asta Burrows. Asta talks about the role of grandparents in our kids’ lives, and the challenges of involving grandparents who live far away.
And on Friday, we are in Washington, where Eva Fannon talks about Blackberries. Not the electronic kind, but the fruit!

A teacher once told me a story about a little girl who was refusing to drink water at home because she had learned at school how scarce this resource was becoming on our planet. “We’re doing it all wrong”, sighed my friend.
Animals, plants and other organisms are getting extinct at alarming rates, habitats are being destroyed, the planet’s average temperature is rising, the seas are overfished, pollutants have reached even the most pristine locations.
I could write dozens of posts on each of these and other environmental issues, with gruesome details that make my hair stand on end. Yet, in the midst of so many problems, how can we teach children to respect the environment without making them outright scared?
