World Moms Blog Senior Editor, Purnima Ramakrishnan, with her grandmother and friends speak about the importance of vaccines.

It was like a dream come true for Purnima Ramakrishnan of Chennai, India one morning this week.  Just a few days ago she received confirmation that she had won the BlogHER International Activist Scholarship for her social good work on her blog, The Alchemist’s Blog, and as a Senior Editor, here, at World Moms Blog.

At the end of July, she will be on her way to Chicago, Illinois in the USA to present her work along with the three other international scholarship winners.

The e-mail from BlogHER stated, “Thank you for submitting your work for consideration to receive the International Activist Blogger Scholarship! We are so pleased to let you know that after careful deliberation, our selection committee has selected you as one of four recipients of this year’s scholarship!”

Purnima’s excitement rang through in her e-mail to World Moms Blog.  She exclaimed, “No words!!! Give me some hours!!! I am still processing it!!!”

The stay-at-home mother in India has accepted the invitation to attend the BlogHER ’13 conference –airfare and hotel stay included — and present her work at a conference session. She will be discussing how blogging has provided a platform for her to become a global social good advocate.  This includes her role at World Moms Blog in helping to provide a voice for mothers across the globe, her advocacy of life-saving vaccinations for children through Shot@Life and the GAVI Alliance, girls rights in India, elimination of global poverty through ONE and global maternal health through Cleanbirth.org.

BlogHER is the largest community of women who blog and a media company founded by Lisa Stone, Elisa Camahort Page and Jory Des Jardins in response to the question, “Where are all the women bloggers?” This year’s BlogHER ’13 conference will be held July 25-27, 2013 in Chicago, IL .

World Moms Blog extends a grand congratulations to our Senior Editor, Purnima Ramakrishnan in India (we are so proud of you!) and a grand thank you to BlogHER for valuing the international voice of women through their scholarship award.
