Where in the world do you live? And, are you from there?
I was born in New york and lived there until the age of 21 when I made Aliyah (emigrated to Israel) with my husband and 1 1/2 kids.
What language(s) do you speak?
My mother tongue is obviously English. I read, write and speak fluent Hebrew but with a dreadful American accent. (I have not mastered the talent of a rolling R.) My Hebrew typing is one step above slowly painful.
I also understand a bit of Yiddish and an even smaller amount of Hungarian. (Courtesy of parents and grandparents trying to talk about me in a language I didn’t understand.)

Where do you live and are you from there?
Welcome to Illinois. Welcome to the weather, it’s fickle and untrustworthy.
A rush of change (Hey, it was 90 degrees with sky-so-blue! Where did this rain come from?) can be purifying and meaningful and I guess that’s the start of the story I share today. My family and I are on the settled side of a move from suburban Chicago (you’ve heard of the White Sox, the big lake and the big tower) to a small town in Central Illinois. My path is a circle, I suppose, because I am from this area originally, but my husband is from Chicago. (more…)

Where in the world do you live? And, are you from there?
I now live in Chennai,India. I am from a smaller town, around 350 miles from here. I lived in the same house and even had the same room for twenty-five years of my life.
I did my entire schooling, college education and even post-graduate education there. After getting married, I settled down here in Chennai with my physician husband and son.
I have never moved much in my life, have strong roots and hopefully don’t intend to move out of this home anytime soon.
What language(s) do you speak?
I speak English, Hindi (India’s National language) and Tamil (my mother tongue). I read and writer the same three languages. I am not great at picking up languages, rather I should say, the necessity has never been there. (more…)

Inspired by Dr. Lanham’s post last week about preparing for a child to leave the nest, I got thinking about what my own identities are beyond just being a mom. Aware that we all go through metamorphoses, we grow, evolve and change identities many times in life, I wanted to make sure I was in touch with who I am because I know it’s more than “MOM!”
Before having kids, I spent most of my life trying to grow up. In my twenties, I got bitten by the bug and started traveling internationally, specifically, backpacking. One of the things I found most thrilling about traveling was the ability to “reinvent myself” at every new destination. I keenly remember trying hard to avoid labels; especially the label of being American. I even went so far, while traveling in the Middle East, as to sew a patch of the Canadian flag on my pack. Kyla was born in suburban Philadelphia but spent most of her time growing up in New England. She took her first big, solo-trip at age 14, when she traveled to visit a friend on a small Greek island. Since then, travels have included: three months on the European rails, three years studying and working in Japan, and nine months taking the slow route back from Japan to the US when she was done. In addition to her work as Managing Editor of World Moms Network, Kyla is a freelance writer, copy editor, recovering triathlete and occasional blogger. Until recently, she and her husband resided outside of Boston, Massachusetts, where they were raising two spunky kids, two frisky cats, a snail, a fish and a snake. Where in the world do you live? And, are you from there?
I live in Minnesota and no, I’m definitely not from here. I was born in Israel and ended up here through West Virginia, New Jersey, and California. How did I end up in the least temperate place ever? Love. It always comes down to that, doesn’t it?
What language(s) do you speak?
I’m fluent in English and Hebrew and did the requisite four years of Spanish in high school, for which I have almost nothing to show.
When did you first become a mother?
My oldest is seven years old. She was born in 2004 and is starting second grade next year. Sob, sniffle.
Are you a stay-at-home mom or do you work?
I’ve run the gamut on this one! In the last seven years I’ve worked outside of the home and stayed at home. Right now I feel lucky to be at home with my little ones while pursuing writing. Sometimes I have a hard time balancing working from home and just being at home. (more…)
Once upon a time Galit Breen was a TRAVELER. She met amazing people and ate delicious food. And all was well with the world. And then, she started her real life. She became a STUDENT earning a BS in Human Development and an MA in Education. She became a classroom and reading TEACHER. She met a man on the internet (when it was gasp-worthy and new) and became his WIFE. She became a MINNESOTAN shortly after that, and he still owes her one for that. But the biggest earthquake shake to her soul was becoming a MOM. The interrupted sleep. The crying. The diapers. The lack of sleep. Did she mention the lack of sleep? But there was also the attachment, the touch, the bungee cords to her heart. Sigh. So today her labels are woven together. Tightly. A wife of one! A Mama of three! And a brand new puggle owner! Of one, people. Just one new puppy, thankyouverymuch. To keep her grounded and to add to the lack of lack of sleep factor, she writes. She writes about Motherhood. Parenting. Spirituality. Feminism. Education. Books. Writing. Balance. And Chocolate. Her writing is sometimes sarcastic, sometimes heart-warming and always transparent. “What is that one trait/quality of your child of which you are so proud?”

Asta Burrows of Norway states:
“I honestly can’t pick one! He is only 18 months (and I don’t want to sound like a horrible, smug annoying mother), but I am proud of everything at the moment; that he can almost drink from a cup, that he eats most things put in front of him apart from salad, that he just learned to wave and say “bye-bye” at the same time… Oh, but I guess one of the things I love/appreciate the most (guess “proud” is the wrong word to use) is that he sleeps through the night, usually 12-13 hours. He has done since he was 4 months old! 
”
Allison Lee from Malaysia replies:
“It’s so hard to pick just one trait! I love that my son (18 months) has a burgeoning vocabulary. Hearing him talk is such a joy. He’s also a very sweet and affectionate hug, always coming in for hugs and kisses. He started sleeping through the night, in his own bed and room, and for that, I’m so proud.” (more…)
