We have an exciting week in store, with three new writers introducing themselves to us!
On Monday we are in Minnesota with Third Eye Mom, a stay-at-home Mom of two who has a love for the outdoors, exploring the big wide world, and living a life of adventure.
On Tuesday, we fly across the pond to Norway, where Asta Burrows gives us some insights into her culture as Norway celebrates its National Day.
On Wednesday, we’re in sunny California with new writer Mom Photographer, who was born and raised in Poland and is now pursuing her goal to become a professional photographer.
On Thursday we’re back in Europe, this time in Italy with Mom In Rome. Mom in Rome spent time in the United States, and is now back in Italy with her husband, her two dogs, and most exciting of all, her baby to be!
On Friday Eva Fannon leads us in the Friday Question. Weigh in with your own answers!

As some of you may already know, I am Norwegian, and my husband is English. So, our wee lad will have to learn both, Norwegian and English, at the very least, to communicate amongst our families.
But, learning these two languages is also the norm for all Norwegian children, as English is taught early on in our school system. I also hope that he will speak French, Spanish or Italian, as well, some day.
I have read that it is easy for children to learn two languages, but also that they may start to speak later than other children. No wonder! Learning to talk is hard enough, but having to learn two languages at the same time can’t possibly make it any easier! (more…)
Astrid is a Norwegian thirty something, married, working mum to a wee lad who is almost three and a baby born in 2012! She grew up in Norway, but moved to London, England after she met her husband. After living there during her twenties, she has since returned to Norway and settled down in her nation's capital of Oslo to raise her family.
She finds herself slowly turning into her own mother as her free time is spent reading, walking, knitting and meeting up with other mums for coffee. (Ok, she still secretly loves going to the pub, too!). However, there isn't much time for any of the above, as she now enjoys spending most of her time crawling around on the floor, while playing with her children! I am a mother of one little girl of 15 months. I am in the early stages of motherhood, and among the trillion questions my new life brings, there is one that is starting to be present on a daily basis. Here it is:
Whether I “like” it or not, I am one day (please not today) going to be a role model. How does one define a role model, and how does one accept that who you are is good enough?
During this first year I concentrated on how the baby is, how my marriage was doing, and I did my best to survive the transition from two to three in the house. I wasn’t really concerned about what I did and how I did it, as long as I managed one day after the next.
But suddenly, this little ball of love is starting to walk, to express herself, to see and interpret what I am doing. Does this mean I already have to be aware of what I am doing in front of her? I sort of knew this day would come, but I DON’T KNOW IF I AM READY!
I have very basic and obvious determinations regarding bringing up my child. I want her to be polite, well-behaved, healthy, respectful of others, be a good citizen, be a good friend… All in all, be a good person.
Now, I am wondering if I have to be this person first… (more…)

We start off on Monday in New Jersey with Veronica Samuels, who is keeping busy with her newborn daughter and a proud new big sister! Veronica talks about having fun in the garden with a helpful child.
On Tuesday, we head off to Norway, where transplanted French mom Ambre French discusses the challenges of being a good role model for our impressive youngsters.
***Updated***On Wednesday, we’re back in the United States with South Carolina mom Maggie Ellison. Maggie reflects on the loss of her beloved pet, Thea.
On Thursday, we board another international flight, this time to remote East Timor, where Shaula Bellour is raising her kids in the island life! If you get a chance, Google East Timor – it looks beautiful!
And Friday, Eva Fannon in Seattle reports on this week’s Friday Question! We encourage our readers to join the discussion by answering the question in the comments section. Come join in on the fun!

Even before the wee lad was born, I felt bombarded with information about how important it was for him to get the right food. This meant that I had to eat right, when all I felt like was dry biscuits and apple juice. Then, it meant breastfeeding.
There is so much information about how breastfeeding is the best thing for your baby and how it is the only thing you should do, which I don’t doubt. But, when breastfeeding doesn’t work, you start to question yourself: maybe I don’t love my baby enough…?
What other reason can there be for not being able to feed him naturally? And, you feel guilty because you have to use formula instead. Here in Norway, there is a warning on the packages that say you need to consult a doctor before giving formula to a baby, followed by a reminder that breastfeeding is better for him. (more…)
