Friday Question: How do you maintain balance between being a mother and an adult?

This week’s Friday Question comes from World Moms Blog writer, Kyla Pa’an from Massachusetts, USA. She asks:

“What do you do to maintain balance between being a mom and being an adult?”

This is what the World Mom Blog writers had to say.

Kirsten Doyle of Toronto writes:
Oh my, I just had to pick myself up off the floor, I was laughing so hard at this one! It is a hard thing to balance. Even when I am not physically with my kids, I am thinking about them. What they need, where they are, whether I need to buy anything or arrange anything for them…

But I suppose my sanity comes from my running. Not only does it keep me in shape and give me some much-needed time to myself, it allows me to actually see some thoughts through to completion! That just doesn’t happen when I have two little monkeys hanging onto me! (more…)

This week’s Friday Question comes from World Moms Blog writer Tara B. in Washington State…

She asked our writers,

When, if ever, will you give you child a cell phone of their own?”

Check out what some of our World Moms had to say…

Kirsten Doyle of Ontario, Canada writes:
“It’s funny that this comes up as the question! Just a few days ago, I discovered that one of my son’s friends has her own cell phone. The kid is SIX, and this just seems wrong and bizarre to me.

My kids are still at the age where they are under adult supervision at all times. With someone watching them all the time, there is no need for them to have a cell phone. When the time comes for them to spend any time unsupervised, I will reevaluate this.” (more…)

Friday Question: Until what age do you feel comfortable undressing in front of your children?

This week’s Friday Question comes from World Moms Blog writer Susie Newday.  She asked our writers,

“Until what age do you feel comfortable undressing in front of your children?  Does it make a difference whether it is a boy or girl?”

Check out what some of our World Moms had to say…

Karyn Van Der Zwet of New Zealand writes:
“We have a nine year-old son, and I am still happy to be naked in front of him.  I figure that there are so many false images of women around, the more he and his younger brothers see of a ‘real’ saggy, aging, ex-pregnant body the better!

That being said: if they start getting creepy in the way they look at me, it’ll change.” (more…)

MINNESOTA, USA: The Bittersweet Reality of Back to School

The letter arrived in the mail on Saturday.  There it sat, long, white and unopened.  My heart skipped a beat.  No, it wasn’t the anticipated college acceptance or rejection letter.  Nor was it a job offer or denial.  It was the letter that would represent my young son’s future:  His teacher assignment for first grade.

I opened it up quickly with mixed feelings.  Who would it be?  Would it be who I wanted?  Would his newly made friends from Kindergarten be in his class?  Or, would he be all alone, faced once again to meet new friends?

As I read the letter, these thoughts raced through my mind, but a deeper, more powerful reaction took over my mind.  (more…)

Her children keep her continually busy and she is constantly amazed by the imagination, energy and joy of life that they possess! A world wanderer at heart, she has also been fortunate to have visited over 30 countries by either traveling, working, studying or volunteering and she continues to keep on the traveling path. A graduate of French and International Relations from the University of Wisconsin Madison, where she met her husband Paul, she has always been a Midwest gal living in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Chicago. Her latest venture involves her dream to raise enough money on her own to build and open a brand-new school in rural Nepal, and to teach her children to live compassionately, open-minded lives that understand different cultures and the importance of giving back to those in need. Third Eye Mom believes strongly in the value of making a difference in the world, no matter how small it may be. If there is a will, there is a way, and that anything is possible (as long as you set your heart and mind to it!). Friday Question: What recent journey have you helped your child(ren) take?

Maggie Ellison of South Carolina, USA writes:
“I taught my son to read before he went into kindergarten because he wanted to know how to do it.  I just followed his lead and guided him to the next level.  When he started kindergarten last year, he was on a 1st grade and 3 month level.  They had a 100 book challenge at school, so every school night we read at least 2 books.  By the end of the year, he wanted to reach his goal of 300 books.  He read over the 300 mark and was so proud of himself.  We celebrated with him!! What a huge accomplishment!!” (more…)
