Where in the world do you live? And, are you from there?
I live in San Francisco, CA. Specifically, I live in The Presidio, a old military post that has been transformed into a state park. We live in newly renovated, former military housing. Living in the park gives us access to outdoor space, trees, wildlife (coyotes, raccoons, hawks, and more), all in the heart of a major city; it’s like living in the suburbs without the commute.
No, I am not from here. I am from Northeastern Pennsylvania. I went to high school with Tara B. All of my family still lives there or close by.
What language(s) do you speak?
I speak English only. I couldn’t even pretend to speak anything else.
When did you first become a mother?
Big girl was born in August 2007. Little girl came along in October 2009.
Are you a stay-at-home mom or do you work?
Something in-between. I consider myself a stay-at-home mom. Currently, I am working 3 days a week as a contractor doing my pre-children job at a major retailer’s corporate office. I am helping out during a friends maternity leave. I have a brand (more…)

Angela Y. is in her mid-thirties and attempting to raise her two daughters (big girl, R, 3 years; little girl, M, 1 year) with her husband in San Francisco, CA. After spending ten years climbing the corporate ladder, she traded it all in to be a stay-at-home mom! Her perspective of raising a child in the city is definitely different from those who have been city dwellers all their lives, as she grew up in rural Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) surrounded by her extended family.
Angela Y. and her husband are on their own on the west coast of the United States — the only family help they receive is when someone comes for a visit. But, the lifestyle in San Francisco is like no other for them, so there, they stay! This exercise conscious mom is easily recognized, especially when she is riding around her husband-built bike with two seats on the back. And, when she’s not hanging out with the girls, you can find Angela Y. in the kitchen. She loves to cook for her family, especially dessert, and then eats some herself when no one is looking! Sneaky, mom!

Welcome to the Saturday Sidebar (formerly known as the Friday Question)! This weekend our discussion question comes from World Moms Blog founder Jennifer Burden. She asked our writers,
“If you had to pick one cause or charity for social good, which would you choose? What is closest to your heart?”
Check out what some of our World Moms had to say…
Salma of Ontario, Canada writes:
“Great question. I have supported many organizations over the years, but the one that is closest to my heart is The White Ribbon Campaign. Men working to end violence against women (VAW) is a huge deal to me. VAW is often considered a woman’s issue, BUT it is society’s problem, so I am all for supporting it.” (more…)

World Moms Blog founder, Jennifer Burden, with her baby at the Social Good Summit in NYC September 2011.
Where in the world do you live? And, are you from there?
I live in New Jersey, USA. I was born and raised here, and I returned after many years of living in the DC metro area to be closer to family.
What language(s) do you speak?
I speak English fluently. I studied French in high school and Japanese at university. Lack of confidence weighs into my foreign language speaking ability.
I know this is true because if I’m out and have had an alcoholic drink or two, I can speak so much better. My Japanese is very rusty, and I’m better at French…but, I still have a long way to go!

Where in the world do you live? And, are you from there?
I was born in Thailand and have lived in so many places that there is not one place that I can genuinely say I am “from.”
At this moment, I live in northern Virginia but it is really only a pit stop until next July when my husband and I, and our two kids, will go live in Vientiane, Laos for two years. And this is after having just lived in Mexico for two years…thus is life in the US Foreign Service.
What language(s) do you speak?
I speak Thai like a six year old, English like a native speaker, can recall some Uzbek, trying to retain Spanish, and now learning Lao.
When did you first become a mother?
I gave birth to my twin son and daughter the day before I turned 42 in 2009.
Are you a stay-at-home mom or do you work?
I have been a stay-at-home mom since my children were born up until three weeks ago when I started Lao language training at the Foreign Service Institute. (more…)
One of Dee’s earliest memories was flying on a trans-Pacific flight from her birthplace in Bangkok, Thailand, to the United States when she was six years old. Ever since then, it has always felt natural for her to criss-cross the globe. So after growing up in the northeast of the US, her life, her work and her curiosity have taken her to over 32 countries. And it was in the 30th country while serving in the Peace Corps in Uzbekistan that she met her husband. Together they embarked on a career in international humanitarian aid working in refugee camps in Darfur, Sudan, and the tsunami torn coast of Aceh, Indonesia.
Dee is now a full-time mother of three-year old twins and continues to criss-cross the globe every two years with her husband who is in the US Foreign Service. They currently live in Vientiane, Laos, and are loving it! You can read about their adventures at Wanderlustress.

Starting this week, we have five regular posts a week – even more great reading from our phenomenal moms!
On Monday we are in Illinois with Jill Barth. Jill writes a thought-provoking piece about natural elements – like water – that humans tend to take for granted until they do not have it.
On Tuesday, we fly on over to Indonesia to hear from new writer Tatterscoops. This mom, who has lived in very diverse cultures, has had the opportunity to see her role as a mother from a number of different angles. Come read as she shares her experiences.
On Wednesday, we are back in the United States, with Frelle from North Carolina. Frelle is a busy mom of four kids. She is an advocate of attachment parenting, and has been brave enough to homeschool her kids. She also says that she leads by example where it comes to body piercings and tattoos.
On Thursday we are abroad again, as we join Alison Lee in Malaysia. Alison has always had writing in her, and had childhood aspirations to be a journalist. Life took her in different directions, and she has held a number of PR roles, including one at Nickelodeon (fun!) Now she has her gorgeous son, and she is rediscovering the inner writer in her.
And for our first regular Friday post, we hear from Carri Brown in California. You know how most little girls ask their parents for a pony? Carri asked and asked and asked, until her father bought her one in desperation. She has been somewhat vocal all her life, and it now appears that her two-year-old is following in her footsteps!
On Saturday, check out the Saturday Sidebar and chime in with your answers to the week’s question.
In writer interviews this week, on Tuesday we will hear from Dee Harlow, who the last time we heard from her, was in the process of packing for a move from Mexico.
