Friday Question: Until what age do you feel comfortable undressing in front of your children?

This week’s Friday Question comes from World Moms Blog writer Susie Newday.  She asked our writers,

“Until what age do you feel comfortable undressing in front of your children?  Does it make a difference whether it is a boy or girl?”

Check out what some of our World Moms had to say…

Karyn Van Der Zwet of New Zealand writes:
“We have a nine year-old son, and I am still happy to be naked in front of him.  I figure that there are so many false images of women around, the more he and his younger brothers see of a ‘real’ saggy, aging, ex-pregnant body the better!

That being said: if they start getting creepy in the way they look at me, it’ll change.” (more…)

NEW YORK, USA: Interview with Maman Aya

NEW YORK, USA: Interview with Maman Aya

Where in the world do you live? And, are you from there?

I live in New York, New York – a city so nice they had to name it twice!  I have always lived in New York City, although I grew up in Queens (one of the outer boroughs), I now live in Manhattan with my family.  The convenience to everything is really hard to beat!

What language(s) do you speak?

I am completely fluent in French and English, and can speak (although I can’t read or write) Hebrew.  As such I have been teaching these languages to my children. I speak only French to the kids, while my husband speaks English to them. (more…)

Maman Aya (USA)

Maman Aya is a full-time working mother of 2 beautiful children, a son who is 6 and a daughter who is two. She is raising her children in the high-pressure city of New York within a bilingual and multi-religious home. Aya was born in Canada to a French mother who then swiftly whisked her away to NYC, where she grew up and spent most of her life. She was raised following Jewish traditions and married an Irish Catholic American who doesn’t speak any other language (which did not go over too well with her mother), but who is learning French through his children. Aya enjoys her job but feels “mommy guilt” while at work. She is lucky to have the flexibility to work from home on Thursdays and recently decided to change her schedule to have “mommy Fridays”, but still feels torn about her time away from her babies. Maman Aya is not a writer by any stretch of the imagination, but has been drawn in by the mothers who write for World Moms Blog. She looks forward to joining the team and trying her hand at writing!

CALIFORNIA, USA: I’m Nobody!

CALIFORNIA, USA: I’m Nobody!

Several years ago, when I was in college, my whole vision of my future was about making a career.

I wanted to be independent and free. I wanted to be free from my, at some point, pathological father and cold as a stone mother.

I wanted to achieve something on my own and be proud about it.

I went to London for a summer break and worked as a waitress 15 hours a day, barely knowing English. I went to Germany and worked installing hardwood floor. (I know!!!)

Very close to the last year at University, I already knew I was not going to use my degree, as it is useless. Mass Media Education. Go figure!

Anyway, I became involved in two radio stations. (more…)

Arizona, USA: Interview with Dr. Jeanelle Marshawn Lanham

Where do you live? And are you from there?

I live in beautiful Arizona, North Glendale to be exact. Whenever anyone asks me about Arizona I tell them that it’s one of God’s best kept secrets. Yes, it gets hot here, and today it’ll be 115F and for most of the summer BUT that’s nothing since I get to enjoy the beautiful sky every night. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else!

Like most of us I am not a native of where I currently live; I am originally from Indiana moved to Atlanta in 1993 and then moved to Arizona in 2004. I lived in Atlanta for a lot of years but had to move away due to leaving an abusive relationship and life. I wanted better for my boys and me so I got out of Atlanta and moved here to Arizona. It’s one of the best moves I’ve ever made especially since I met my awesome husband here! (more…)
