While not all, but a great number of countries recognize Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May, this week we asked our writers…
“What is the best gift you could receive for Mother’s Day?”
Here is what some of our World Moms said…
Maggie Ellison of South Carolina, USA writes:
“A head-to-toe day at the spa with my sister would be the ultimate gift!”
Veronica Samuels of New Jersey, USA writes:
“My second daughter was the gift this year. After the struggle it took to bring her into the world, she’s finally here! (And, I wouldn’t mind the spa and to be able to sleep late!)”
The Alchemist of India writes:
“Sleep late, did someone say? I have stopped wishing for that. So, if I can sleep late, I would consider my day fulfilled :). I would not mind the spa, a long massage, lunch at my favorite restaurant and a long day doing absolutely NOTHING.”
Alison Lee of Malaysia writes:
“The best gift would be the whole day to myself to go for a spa, manicure, pedicure, long lunch, some window shopping…and to end the day with cuddles from my little boy 🙂 .”
Eva Fannon of Washington State, USA writes:
“My husband has been away on a long business trip, so I would love a family day, preferably outside with warm, sunny weather and bright blue skies. A picnic and a hike somewhere in the beautiful Pacific NW sounds lovely!”
Inspiration to Dream of Australia writes:
“My children happy and healthy are all I ever want for Mother’s Day. I’d like to share something I wrote years ago when my son was a rebellious teenager and had disappeared without word.
“My son remembered me on Mother’s Day, after no contact for over a week and not knowing whether he was dead or alive, he rang to say he loved me. It was the gift that no amount of money could buy and meant the world to me. His words ‘Mum I’m fine, I’m eating well and I’m having fun. I love you.’ I cried my first tears of joy and not worry in a long time.”
Being a mum is hard work but the most rewarding thing in the world – Happy Mother’s Day to mums everywhere. I found this poem many years ago which sums up motherhood perfectly for me. http://www.holybible.com/resources/poems/ps.php?sid=646”
DC Blogmama of Washington, DC, USA writes:
“This year I have put in a specific request for a white iPhone 4. Our wedding anniversary is also in May, so it’s tough for my husband and I thought I would help him out this year.
A non-material gift would be a positive pregnancy test, but I might have to wait until my anniversary for that. Some sunshine, brunch, being outside and beautiful weather and a quiet evening wouldn’t hurt, either.”
Karyn Van Der Zwet of New Zealand writes:
“Craig says the best thing that could happen is for me to be woken nice and early by our children…I say a home-made card and a few hours alone!”
What about you – what is the best gift you could receive for Mother’s Day?
And do you have a question you would like to pose to our WMB writers? If so, email us at wmbsidebareditor@gmail.com to see what they have to say.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! And don’t forget to visit us on Sunday to pick up next week’s travel itinerary.

Breakfast in bed – or maybe just to be allowed to sleep in 🙂
My son was born on the eve of MD 3 years ago, that was pretty hard to beat!
That is so cool! I gave birth to my first daughter on my birthday, and I feel the same on my birthday when it comes to gifts!
I echo earlier responses in that I’d like to sleep in and then spend the day with my family on a hike. To Inspiration to Dream : you made me cry…but in that good kind of way 😉
Tara – I cry every time I read it. It just says it all doesn’t it?
I’d like to add one more thing to my Mother’s Day wish list — having my car cleaned out and the exterior washed. It’s a mess!!!
Veronica, My boys are doing mine as we speak – shall I send them over?
How quick can they get from Australia to New Jersey, USA? If only we lived closer! 🙂
I wish I could not be the food source for a day but that’s not happening 🙂 My hubby is outside now planting me a flower garden though… so that’s something I’ll really enjoy!
