WASHINGTON, USA: The Comeback Kid
My first son, who is now 5 years old, inherited my gift of gab. He used sign language as soon as physically possible, said his 1st real word (“duck”) around 12 months old, had a ton of partial words by 15 months old, and by 18 months old, could pretty much say...
Travel Itinerary for the Week of April 18th!
“Get your passports out on Thursday and fly with us to Chennai, India, where we meet up with writer, Fire Crystals! **This is truly a “Wow!” post.** She writes about fertility treatment in India in the 1920s and her great-grandmother’s undying persistence to conceive a child, Fire Crystal’s own grandfather. An inspiring read for all mothers, and also one to forward to that good friend going through fertility treatment.”

EAST TIMOR: Driving Me Crazy!
However, driving can still be frustrating. According to the US State Department: “Driving in Dili is especially hazardous, with large trucks and military vehicles sharing the streets with vendors, pedestrians, and livestock.” Yep.
SOUTH CAROLINA, USA: Goodbye, My Sweet Girl
“Everyone kept telling me it was time, but I couldn’t do it. Then, the other day I let her out as she was starting to get sick. Her legs couldn’t hold her, so she fell over. Still heaving, my poor dog was kicking her legs in the air, wiggling her body as she struggled to get up. She rolled in her puke and the dirt. It was all over her.”
NORWAY: Being a Role Model…a What?
“It’s almost like I want to ask all my friends to sign a confidentiality agreement, so they never reveal the crazy things I did (like driving around Paris at 2 in the morning 8 people in a car). And, it almost makes me sad.”
NEW JERSEY, USA: The “Garden” State
“The garden became a fun place for her to play in the dirt. She pretended to dig for dinosaur bones or filled up her little watering can to help water the plants. She observed bees on the flowers. She watched the vegetables grow on the plants, and she became a great spotter of cucumbers amongst the leaves.”

NEW ZEALAND: Christchurch: Looking Forward One Month After the Quake
At 4.35am, on the 4th September 2010, the city of Christchurch in New Zealand’s South Island was hit by an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale. It’s epicentre was close to the township of Darfield, 40 km (25 miles) west of Christchurch. There was widespread damage and power outages, two people were seriously injured and one person died from a heart-attack during the quake.
MASSACHUSETTS, USA: Life, in Transit
“For me, entertaining my kids means we are doing something outside of the house. It’s entirely possible that the real reason for this is that I am not a crafty mom, not that resourceful and lack big space to let them blow off steam but I prefer to think it’s because I am just wired that way…I’m a do-er…I’m a stay-at-home-mom who has trouble staying at home.”
WASHINGTON, DC, USA: Starting From the Beginning
And in my drug- and fatigue-induced stupor, and I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to live this down — I say, “It’s a girl? Really?? It’s a GIRL? Are you sure?…oh my God, she had everyone fooled…oh my poor mom.”
AUSTRALIA: Beware: Challenges Ahead
“I used to think that sleepless nights and babies were the biggest challenges that life had to throw at me. That was until I had teenagers in the house and I realised that toddlers and babies were a walk in the park.”

CANADA: Here Come The Bride’s Children!
“I seem to have a knack for doing things backwards…The benefit of having done things in reverse is that this way, I get to have my kids in my wedding party. They are going to be adorable.”
NEW YORK, USA: Guys and Dolls
Chase is a typical three year old boy, he loves just about anything with wheels. Right now, Thomas the Tank Engine toys maintain their ubiquitous presence in our lives but he also enjoys playing with generic race cars, taxis, buses, front end loaders, cement trucks . . .you get the idea. But, in addition to all of the “right” kinds of interests, lately Chase is also extremely into everything involving babies.
CALIFORNIA, USA: Books, Books, Books!
“Reading, especially fiction, is my escape – it is my form of relaxation (usually with a glass of wine in hand). I love to go to someone else’s world at the end of my day! I am hoping to pass on this trait to my girls, too, so I have surrounded them in books from day one.”
NORWAY: Food for Thought
I don’t know about other places in the world, but here in Norway there suddenly is a lot of focus on the connection between food and brain development (A recent study by Bristol University). So here I am, happy that the wee lad is eating and now I have to worry about his brain development as well!?
