Today’s Friday Question comes to us from our founder, Veronica Samuels.  This week she asked our writers…

“Why do you blog?”

And here are the responses from some of our World Moms…

Alison Lee of Malaysia writes:
“I love to write and I’m pretty opinionated and where better than to express it in my own little space?  I also enjoy connecting with fellow moms, learning from their experiences, sharing in their joy, sadness and triumphs.  I get a lot of satisfaction from blogging and have gained some friendships along the way.  What’s not to love?”

Asta Burrows of Norway writes:
“When Veronica first asked me to contribute to World Moms Blog (WMB) I initially wondered what I have to say that would be of interest to others, but after thinking about it I realised that I have a lot on my mind, as does everybody else I am sure!  I find blogging good in several ways:  I get to share my feelings and I get feedback/advice etc!

I also started my own little blog, http://quintessentiallyburrows.wordpress.com and it is great to have a place where I can post my thoughts!”

Karyn Van Der Zwet of New Zealand writes:
“I spent three and a half years reading copious amounts of research about what really makes people tick after realising that most parenting advice was suspect at best…I needed a place to connect with others who might be asking the same sorts of questions I did. ”

Veronica Samuels of New Jersey, USA writes:
“I started blogging to help out a friend who started Jersey Moms Blog.  What I didn’t expect was how freeing and healing it was to get words out of my head and onto the screen while going through infertility and pregnancy loss.

And, being in a community of fellow mother bloggers is such a great support system.  I have gotten parenting tips and emotional support when I’ve needed it, and I enjoy helping other mothers out where I can.

I joined World Moms Blog because I wanted to know how mothers around the world were doing things.  And, I don’t have time to check in on various personal international blogs daily.  I can check here and get a great sampling!

I appreciate the sharing of information and support that occurs on the blog.  I feel empowered to make this group of international writers great, and I hope that our blog inspires and empowers more women!  Or, just helps a tired mother get through her day. :)”

Ambre French of Norway writes:
“I am a little embarrassed to call myself a blogger…I have only posted two entries in my life and I am so bad at thanking my readers.  But gosh I love being part of WMB!  This Friday Question gives me an opportunity to say thank you to WMB for accepting my participation as it is for the time being.

I love the idea of blogging. I feel stronger somehow to feel part of a group that has made similar choices in their life and have the talent of explaining how they go through them.  Writing, or trying to write, gives me a chance to finally put into words all these new emotions I am going through.  Blogging allows me to be bluntly honest, to reveal things that might be difficult to say out loud, or just simply talk about details others around you might not understand.  There is a thrill and comfort in knowing that somewhere out there, there are kind, funny, kindred people who have met you on your path and taken time to hear you.

Thank you Veronica and the whole team for your brilliant coordination.  Thank you Asta for introducing me to WMB…and thank you all for your valued comments and posts.”

Tara B. of Washington State, USA writes:
“I have always wanted to write but never seemed to find a way to make it work in my life.  Blogging seems a great way to share ideas, thoughts, and stories in a non-overwhelming, not-all-time consuming way.  WMB has been my first experience of sharing my writing, and it feels like the most natural thing in the world to me.  And the most wonderful surprise is the community that the blog is developing.  This was something I didn’t think about beforehand but am so happy to have.  Thanks for allowing me to be part of the party!”

Kelley of Laos writes:
“While I had considered writing a blog before, it was the arrival of my daughter that finally galvanized me to start writing.  For me, blogging serves a number of purposes:

  • It’s a baby book better than anything I could buy and do to fill-in-the-blanks.
  • It’s a way to keep family and friends updated about my daughter’s progress without my Facebook page becoming all about her (what was happening before I started it!).
  • My daughter’s special needs mean I seek connections with parents with similar experiences (and advice!), but living in Laos means I don’t have access to the parents groups I would in my home country.  There is a great community of mommy bloggers of children with Down syndrome on the internet and having my own blog allows me a little voice in that community.”

Kyla P’an of Massachusetts, USA writes:
“I started blogging because I needed a personal, creative outlet.  For the past two years I had really wanted to do something that was my own, that would help me better analyze my thoughts while honing my writing skills in the process.

I considered it a major goal on Sep 30, 2010, when I wrote and posted my first blog http://growingmuses.wordpress.com.  A few weeks later, WMB got in touch with me about something I posted and I quickly became a fan.

Blogging is a way to publicly share experiences in a somewhat anonymous way.  It feels really good too when you write something that resonates with others and generates discussion and sometimes even answers, or gives you new ways of seeing old problems.  I just wish there was more time in the day to do it.”

Courtney Cappallo of Massachusetts, USA writes:
“I started blogging at http://www.tableof4please.com to chronicle my journey home-schooling my two children.  I also wanted to share what we were doing with other parents.  I am very inspired by other bloggers and love that they share their life experiences.”

The Alchemist of India writes:
“A few months ago, I wrote a post in my personal blog, http://myworldrevolvesaroundyou.wordpress.com, titled, “I dont blog, I write.

The reason I started blogging is because it gave me a creative outlet.  I am passionate about writing.  And blogging is the simplest form of writing.  Getting feedback, meeting people virtually, sharing experiences, learning, and most importantly, feeling comradeship and being part of a group, like WMB for instance.

Writing is therapeutic for me.

Someday I will get to complete my book and perhaps, I would feel blogging helped me sharpen my writing skills.”

Inspiration to Dream of Australia writes:
“I started blogging basically because I was stuck in a rut, work was stressful beyond belief, and I had choices to make.

Ironically blogging re-opened the creativity doors that have been firmly closed and started me writing again.  This week I reached 71,000 words on my first book and I’m almost complete.

I blog because I learn about myself, I interact with some amazing people and most of all I do what is in my heart and I write.  Who needs a psychologist when you have a blog?”

Inspiration to Dream wrote a post on her blog about why she blogs.  Check it out at http://fbiedermann.blogspot.com/2011/04/bittersweet-moments-and-my-journey-so.html.

Eva Fannon of Washington State, USA writes:
“I never even thought of blogging until Veronica, an old high school friend, contacted me as she was starting up World Moms Blog.  I told her I would give it a whirl, so here I am :).  I have found it to be a great way to share and learn..and yes, it is therapeutic!  As a working mom I don’t have the time to do my own blog, so I’m excited to be part of this amazing group of world moms.  It gives me an opportunity to write something when I have some down time, and to be part of a supportive virtual community.”
