Where in the world do you live? And, are you from there?
I was born and raised in Southern California. I’ve spent the majority of my life in Ventura County, which is between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties. We are blessed with great weather, beautiful beaches, and low crime. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to grow up and I’m so happy that I’m able to raise our son here.
What language(s) do you speak?
I speak English but after a few days in Mexico, I’m able to remember some of my four years of Spanish.
When did you first become a mother?
I became a mother on February 3rd, 2009. Blake is our only child and we are not planning on having any other children.
Are you a stay-at-home mom or do you work?
I recently quit my job and became a SAHM. Working outside of the home and being a SAHM are similar in that they both have their positives and negatives. I like the paycheck and away time I got with working but I didn’t like the sitter experiencing all of Blake’s “firsts”. Now that I’m home, I miss the money and the adult conversation but I do enjoy spending time with Blake.
Why do you blog/write?
I’ve always loved to write, but I thought blogging would be a great way to let family and friends know what we were up to. With Blake growing up so fast, I wanted to be able to look back on what I had written. It didn’t take long for me to find other blogs that I enjoyed as well as a great group of women.
How would you say that you are different from other mothers?
I don’t think I’m different than other moms; I’m just ME.
What do you view as the challenges of raising a child in today’s world?
I can think of a million things that spin my anxiety out of control, so I choose to not dwell on them. I do think it’s important for us parents to always be aware of what is going on around us and our children.
Blake has his own set of challenges, one being the fact that he is very independent. It will work to his advantage when he’s older but for now, he needs to listen to Mommy!
How did you find World Moms Blog?
I first heard of World Moms Blog on Twitter, but it wasn’t until Alison from Mama Wants This! added the button to her site that I went to check it out.
This is an original, first-time post from our new California writer, Carri Brown. You can find her on her blog, Mommy’s Little Monster, Blake.
