NEW ZEALAND: Do YOU have a Choice?
“Modern women were told we could do anything.
Which evolved into – we should do everything.
And now many of us have no option: we have to do everything.”
Travel Itinerary for the Week of August 29, 2011!
We start off the week in New Zealand with Karyn Van Der Zwet of Kloppenmum. (Yay -- she's back!) Karyn talks about attachment parenting and discusses the direction in which societal roles are changing for mothers. A very interesting read! On Tuesday, we head south...

This week's Friday Question comes from World Moms Blog writer Susie Newday. She asked our writers, “Until what age do you feel comfortable undressing in front of your children? Does it make a difference whether it is a boy or girl?” Check out what some of our World...
NEW YORK, USA: Interview with Maman Aya
What do you view as the challenges of raising a child in today’s world?
We live in New York City. That in itself is a challenge. Unlike someone who lives in the suburbs, where the children could just run out to the back yard and play to get outside, we have to plan an ‘event’ for them to go to the playground to play.
ARIZONA, USA: Anticipation of Change is Worse than Change Itself!
“I decided that every time fear tried to stop me I was going to think of all the other things I had ALREADY accomplished and this wasn’t any different. I’m a mom, I’m SuperWoMan, and I can do anything I set my mind to.”
ISRAEL: From Baby to Soldier. From Worried Mom to Calm Mom.
“My biggest worry and the one that left me with quite a few sleepless nights and wanting to chicken out [from moving], was the fact that there is mandatory draft in Israel. Since we are orthodox, girls can do national service instead of army service, but for boys there is no way out…Needless to say, I spent quite a bit of time silently hoping my baby would be a girl.”
WASHINGTON, USA: Interview with Tara B.
What do you like best about writing for World Moms Blog?
I love seeing the various writing styles and topics. The contributions have been all over the map (no pun intended), and it makes for fun reading! There is also a really positive vibe from everyone involved, whether we are in accord on any given topic or not. Great group of women all around!
GUEST POST: NEW JERSEY, USA: Losing My Mom While Pregnant
“I remember her saying that God sent me this baby because it was going to be a way for me to have something good in my life after she was gone. Sadly, at a little over 9 weeks, I miscarried, and my dream of my mom getting to meet my baby disappeared just like that.”
MINNESOTA, USA: The Bittersweet Reality of Back to School
“However, first grade will be different, as it would be the first time in almost seven years that my son will be in school for most of the day. He won’t be home for lunch or for afternoon play time with his younger sister. We won’t have an entire day to ourselves to go to the zoo, watch a movie on the couch or visit the Children’s Museum.”
Travel Itinerary for the Week of August 22nd!
On Monday, we are in in Minnesota with Third Eye Mom, who talks about a topic that is on the forefront of many parents' minds right now. How do cope with our children starting Grade One and the realm of full-day schooling? Go on over, have a read, and commiserate with...

AUSTRALIA: Interview with Inspiration to Dream
When did you first become a mother?
I was a very young mum, with my first son born two weeks after my 17th birthday. This was a huge disappointment to my parents and it took many years to repair my damaged relationship with my father. I have always adored children and never regretted having a child so young. I almost got it right the next time with my second son arriving three months after my 23rd birthday and two months after I got married, unlike my first son though – this one was planned. My third son we got it right,
BRAZIL: “Teaching” Children to Respect Nature: Between Fear and Awe
“Having arrived on this planet, example will continue as children inevitably observe their parents’ actions: what they eat, how they take care of their health, what and how much they buy, how they treat animals and plants, how they treat other people, how they arrange their homes.”
ILLINOIS, USA: Little Things From Great Heights
“My kids are sure-footed and nature-aware, but I’ll be honest: I had some worry spots as they climbed the largest rocks and balanced, with only the bluest of skies behind them, on the craggy peaks. A sense of overwhelming protectiveness had me grabbing the backs of their fleece jackets and calling loudly if the toes of their hiking shoes got too close to a rough edge. There were moments when my experience was swallowed by the watching and worrying, the mama-bear-style protection.” — Jill Barth of Illinois, USA on her family trip through the Rocky Mountains
CANADA: Interview with Multitasking Mumma
Why do you blog/write?
…2. In my personal life, work life, “real life” I often feel as though I’m interrupted a lot. We all get interrupted, and we all butt in to others’ conversations, it‘s common, however, I find myself very sensitive to it. Blogging allows me to have a voice. A place where I am not interrupted. A spot where there are no voices raising above mine to quiet my opinions.
NORWAY: Does Anyone Have the Original Soundtrack to Noah’s Ark?
“I can at least guarantee that I am a fantastic pigeon, and I master the sheep beautifully. But, I do draw a line at pigs. Who would have guessed? Masters degree in International Business, trilingual AND animal imitator… Any job openings out there?” — Ambre French of Norway on her life and multilingual animal sounds.
INDIA: EYE ON CULTURE: Happy Independence Day!
“There is an Independence Day parade in the capital, Delhi, which is a beautiful event to watch. I can remember watching the live telecast on Doordarshan (national TV channel) with soft drinks and hot pakoras year after year. Most often in the evening, a patriotic movie would be telecast. I can recite all the dialogues of the movie, Roja (propogates patriotis), in this regard, and I can never get tired watching it.”
Travel Itinerary for the Week of August 15th!
On Monday, we are in India for a special post from The Alchemist. She will be writing about Indian Independence Day, and we look forward to hearing all about this occasion and what it means for our Indian moms. On Tuesday, we visit with Ambre French, our French maman...
Saturday Layover for August 13th, 2011…
"I don’t want to be a mom." When I first heard those words ring out of my 4-year old's mouth, I was crushed. I immediately thought that this was my fault. Am I too hard on her? Am I too strict? Am I too neurotic? Does my job look boring to her? Is it because I...
