BRAZIL: Interview with EcoZiva
How would you say that you are different from other mothers?
I’m certainly not the typical mom. For one thing, I never wanted to be a mom, but in the end this seemed to have a positive twist. When I see other women that are somewhat disappointed with motherhood despite having dreamed of it their entire lives, I realize that what helped me fall in love with motherhood was not having that many expectations. Thus, being a mother is something I work on daily, sometimes with painstaking awareness of the process, yet never ignoring my intuition.
CALIFORNIA, USA: I’m Nobody!
“Polish women work hard. The term “stay-at-home-mother” is known only to the richest; and, on the other hand, young women are very focused on making a career (as I once dreamed about).”
INDIA: My Decision: SAHM vs. Working-Mom
“Where I live in India, you hear a lot of criticism or praise about whether you are a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM) or a working-mom (WM) or even if you convert from one to the other. It has been almost ten months since I became a SAHM, but I still receive judgments about my decision. Just check out these conversations…”
ISRAEL: Interview With Susie Newday (Newdaynewlesson)
Why do you blog/write?
I discovered writing as a way to express my feelings and it’s not bad as free therapy either. It is a way to connect with other people and let them get to know you better. I believe life is full of lessons and I blog about the lessons life hands me each day. I try and see the things that happen to me and around me in a positive light and I truly believe that everything we experience is there to help us enrich ourselves, to learn and to grow. I started my blog because I saw how thinking positively changed my life and I was hoping to inspire others to do the same.
CANADA: An Atheist Christening
“When you are the granddaughter of an Anglican minister and you marry an ardent atheist, religion is one of those things you discuss carefully before you have kids.”
Monday Delayed Layover for August 8, 2011…
“The other very inspiring woman I met at BlogHer wasn’t even at BlogHer. Confused? It’s Yaoni Sanchez from Cuba. She received a scholarship for the conference, but her country didn’t give her the visa to travel to the US.”
CALIFORNIA, USA: The Placebo Effect
“First of all, I just haven’t felt “myself” since the birth of little girl. And, she is about to turn two. When I mentioned baby blues to my OB/GYN soon after her arrival, he pushed it aside and said it will pass. But, maybe it didn’t.”
Travel Itinerary for the Week of August 8th!
On Monday, we go to sunny California to hear from A. Roselyn as she tells us about her experiences with acupuncture. Read all about how she turned to alternative medicine to help her overcome "baby blues" and feel like herself again. On Tuesday, are north of the US...
Friday Question: What’s one indulgence you’re loath to give up?
This week's Friday Question comes from World Moms Blog writer Kyla P’an. She asked our writers, “What’s one indulgence you’re loath to give up?” Check out what some of our World Moms had to say... Susie Newday of Israel writes: “Very sadly, I don't seem to have one...
ILLINOIS, USA: Interview with Jill Barth
What do you view as the challenges of raising a child in today’s world?
Americans in particular have done an excellent job providing for our children, but in that effort we’ve found indulgence and excess. It is tempting feel that if we aren’t capturing or promoting the biggest and best for our kids, we’ve failed. Ok, so there isn’t a biggest. Isn’t a best. I’ve found it to be challenging, for sure. I’ve got three kids that are very different, and I’m finding that it’s also key to recognize each child’s roots and blooms rather than trying to grow them all the same way. Again, there is no best.
CANADA: Tragedy Through A Child’s Eyes
“Teaching a child about geologically explainable shifts within the earth is very different to explaining why someone would deliberately kill dozens of innocent people who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
NORWAY: Pregnant. Or, not.
“But, we never got that far. It went wrong in week 12, and now I am left feeling so silly and feeling quite sorry for myself. We know all the facts. The chances of losing a pregnancy before week 12 is about 25%. (I don’t know if this statistic is local or what, but it is the number we are told here in Norway.)”
MASSACHUSETTS, USA: Interview with Courtney Cappallo
How would you say that you are different from other mothers?
I would say that the fact that I am a home-schooling teacher makes me different from most mothers. I suppose I have more in common with mothers from over 100 years ago, like 1st lady, Abigail Adams, who taught their children at home.
SOUTH CAROLINA, USA: Positively Freeing!
“My point in bringing this up is that I have dealt with some very negative people recently. I have been hurt by them, but instead of following my old ways of feeling bad, carrying it with me and not letting it go, I did something different.”
ILLINOIS, USA: Visiting Our Family on the Eastern Shore
“We drove through Illinois and Indiana, past a “Wind Farm”, multiple casino, tobacco hut, stripper club, “Jesus Saves”, and alcohol billboards, and into Ohio. The longest stretch of the trip. The part of the drive when we went from flat, flat, flat and wide open spaces to hills and the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.”

Saturday Layover for July 30th, 2011…
“It occurred to me that maybe some of you are thinking, “Who the heck is running this ship?” And, also, maybe the thought never even crossed your mind. ha ha. So, anyway, this week, as your World Moms Blog founder and editor, I’m answering one question from our normal interview. And, here’s how it goes…”
Friday Question: Do your kids help with household chores?
This week's Friday Question comes from World Moms Blog writer Maggie Ellison. She asked our writers, “Do your kids help with household chores? If not, do you plan on giving them any as they get older? If so, at what age? Do/will they get an allowance?” Here are...
INDIA: Interview with The Alchemist
What do you like best about writing for World Moms Blog?
I have met so many wonderful and strong women here. I love the fact that all of us want to know more about each other and be a strong community of mothers, helping each other out. I get an opportunity to read about different cultures and different parenting styles. This place shows that among all our differences in the world, people still are united in affairs which matter the most (like parenting).
WASHINGTON, USA: The Name Game
Both times I was pregnant, my husband and I easily agreed upon possible first and middle names for girls (using the American format of first name, middle name, last/surname). So, of course, we ended up having two boys for whom we had no ideas. When we learned we were...
